The details are still coming in, but this line, from Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Ellie Rushing jumped out at me:

The convictions, including a felony illegal gun possession case in 2013, would have barred Lewis from owning a gun.

Surely, surely! even the dullest leftist advocating more gun control laws ought to be able to see that the gun control laws that are already on the books did not keep suspect Eric Lewis from having not one but two firearms, a handgun and a shotgun.

Yet another goon shoots police officers in Philly. ** Updated **

What are the odds that the shooter already has a long rap sheet, and has been given every break possible by the city’s George Soros-sponsored, criminal-loving and police-hating District, Larry Krasner?

As we have previously reported, even when the city began programs to clean up and improve West Philadelphia, the locals rebelled, afraid that a nicer neighborhood would encourage more white people to move there. But, not to worry, things like this might keep them out:

Killadelphia Four shooters, over fifty rounds fired, sounds like a gang hit to me!

We noted, just a few days ago, that there had been 108 murders in the City of Brotherly Love, through Sunday, August 9th. The city’s George Soros-sponsored, criminal-loving and police-hating District Attorney, Larry Krasner, following that weekend in which six people were murdered, said:

We had a bad weekend. We’re not having a bad year.

I contrasted Philly’s murder rate with that of Lexington, Kentucky, which, when I wrote, had four homicides all year, noting that Philly was 4.77 times Lexington’s size but has 27 times as many killings. Then Lexington had its fifth murder, as we reported here and here.

Well, it looks like Philly didn’t want to be left behind!

Family demand answers!

My good friend Robert Stacy McCain has a short series entitled “Family Demands Answers”, which reached the fourth such article at the beginning of this month, and as you might guess the series refers to families loudly complaining about their poor future doctors and astrophysicists being killed while doing something boneheadedly stupid. It’s like a “Hold my beer” moment, but with the police involved.

The peasants are revolting!

Apparently, at least in liberal-speak, if you are a member of an Accredited Victim Group™, you do not have to do anything really radical like obey the law or behave like a civilized human being.

The City of Brotherly Love — a pretty appropriate nickname right now — has gone all out on the homosexual “Pride” month, something our nation’s third oldest continuously published daily newspaper has been very eagerly covering, and as you might have guessed, the party atmosphere has not led to orderly behavior.

Fifteen people were arrested at a Pride celebration in the Gayborhood on Sunday, authorities said, and the response drew criticism from some LGBTQ+ residents over how police handled crowd control at the event.

Images of police officers engaging with attendees in Center City circulated widely across local social media feeds on Monday, featuring criticisms of what some considered to be an outsized and aggressive law enforcement presence.

In one image shared on X, a police officer on a motorcycle appears to push against a woman’s chest, and in another photo, pushes the woman against a garage door while arresting her.

Others videos showed police on horseback dispersing young people from a sidewalk, as well as officers physically struggling with a man outside of the gay bar Woody’s.

Sounds like crowd control to me, efforts by the Philadelphia Police to keep things safe and orderly, among a crowd in which some partygoers might have consumed mood-or-judgement-altering substances.

And in yet another clip, a row of police officers — two of whom were wearing face coverings — formed a line to clear a barricaded Gayborhood street while officers on motorbikes rode along the sidewalks.

Joshua Stokem, a New Jersey resident who regularly attends the city’s Pride celebrations, said he has never seen that large of a police presence during such festivities.

“They were definitely getting more and more aggressive” as the gathering stretched into the early evening, said Stokem, who works as a promoter for LGBTQ+ events at city bars.

Councilmember Rue Landau, herself a member of the LGBTQ+ community, said in a statement Monday that LGBTQ+ constituents had reached out to her office in “outrage” and that she was working to better understand the department’s strategy.

It’s really simple: police officers in those situations are trying to keep things orderly and safe, while ‘revelers’ are not always inclined to behave.

Considering the size of the crowds, at least to judge by the coverage that The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philly television stations have provided, fifteen people being arrested, mostly for disorderly conduct, but at least one person “was arrested for aggravated assault of a police officer.”

Can I blame that on the newspaper’s encouraging attitude when it comes to citizens ‘resisting’ law enforcement when it comes to immigration? To me, those things are related. If someone has no respect for law enforcement in one area, would it be any particular surprise that such a person might have less respect for law enforcement in other areas?

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said in a statement that the celebration was “by all accounts, a successful event attended and enjoyed by thousands of people.”

Still, “as crowd sizes increased in the Gayborhood, officers responded to a growing number of public safety concerns, including fights, disorderly behavior, blocked roadways, and the challenges associated with safely managing large crowds in a confined area,” Bethel said.

What? Fights? Among our peaceful, leftist communities? I’m shocked, I tell you, shocked!

Let’s face it: Commissioner Bethel, all of the supervisors, and really every police officer in the City of Brotherly Love know that Philly is very supportive of the homosexual community, and they would certainly not be going out of their way just to beat up the revelers; that’s very much a career-limiting move, and with the city’s asinine, far-left, police-hating District Attorney, any cop would know that if he stepped over the line, Larry Krasner would want to throw him in jail. I’m not going to give any credit to the special pleaders for this particular Accredited Victim Group.™

No matter how much you hate the credentialed media, you do not hate them enough! It's far more important to protect criminal suspects than it is to protect law-abiding people.

I saw this tweet from Northeast Philly Degenerate, and of course I snarked, “Russian? I’ve never known a Russian named Saidakhmad.” As it turns out, the Philadelphia Police came to the same conclusion, that they are probably of central Asian descent.

At 4:52 PM EDT, two hours and twelve minutes later, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s after hours reporter, Robrt Moran, published the newspaper’s own story on the crime:

6 men rob, commit assaults at massage business near Chinatown, police say

One of the six men who fled from the roof of the business on the 400 block of North Ninth Street was arrested, police said.

Six young men robbed at gunpoint and committed sexual assaults at a massage business just north of Chinatown early Saturday, Philadelphia police said.

The men forced their way into the business on the 400 block of North Ninth Street about 4:40 a.m., police said Monday.

When police arrived, the men “fled from the roof,” the police department said.

One suspect was caught on the roof, police said.

Saidakhmad Bakiev, 18, of Northeast Philadelphia, was charged with rape, robbery, aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, burglary, false imprisonment, sexual assault, indecent assault, and related offenses.

In keeping with the newspaper’s policy of not publishing mugshots, Mr Moran did not include one of the accused. But Mr Moran did include two hyperlinks which did lead to such. One wonders if he’ll be called on the carpet for that.

The link to the Philadelphia Police Department’s press release included photos of the five suspects on the lam. The remaining suspects “are described as white males, late teens into their 20’s, dark hair, possibly Russian/Central Asian descent.” No information on their immigration status was included, but if Mr Bakiev is an immigrant, I’m sure that Will Bunch will defend him at all costs.

The 400 block of North Ninth Street is no great place, a neighborhood of low rent businesses, ill-kept sidewalks, and vacant lots with overgrown grass behind chain link fences. “Massage parlors” are not usually considered high-class businesses.

One would think that the newspaper of record for not only the city but the metropolitan area as well, my unlimited digital subscription for which is $6.99 per week, $363.48 per year, would be more concerned with the safety of the decent people in the City of Brotherly Love, be more willing to include the photos of the (alleged) malefactors, to get the aid of the public in identifying them and helping the Philadelphia Police to capture the suspects, but apparently if one did think that, he’d be wrong, wrong, wrong! It’s far more important to protect criminal suspects than it is to protect law-abiding people.

Poor, poor Larry Krasner is tearfully upset that he couldn’t lock up another cop for longer

Larry Krasner, Philadelphia’s George Soros-sponsored, criminal-loving and police-hating District Attorney, recently renominated for a third term, as the city’s chief prosecutor, is just spittle-flecking angry that he cannot keep a former Philadelphia Police Officer in jail any longer, and, of course, the denizens at The Philadelphia Inquirer have been outraged all along. Columnist Helan Ubiñas waxed wroth when the charges against former Officer Mark Dial were initially dismissed, because Mr Krasner’s minions didn’t do their jobs properly. The Inquirer’s long-time columnist, Helen Uniñas, waxed wroth that the charges were dismissed, calling it a “welcome and rare reminder that police are not above the law when Officer Mark Dial’s bail was revoked” last week, to jail him before trial, and yesterday was pissed because “prosecutors apparently did not present evidence that (Officer Dial) had committed a crime.” Shouldn’t her ire be reserved for the District Attorney and his minions, who failed to “present evidence that he had committed a crime”? Does Miss Ubiñas believe that all criminals should be held behind before bars before they are tried and convicted? How else can one interpret that revocation of bail was a “welcome and rare reminder that police are not above the law”?

The District Attorney was able to get the charges reinstated, but not the First Degree Murder charge he wanted. In Pennsylvania, a defendant can be held without bail is the charge carries a potential term of life imprisonment. The DA refiled on Title 18 §2502, “Murder generally,” but Third Degree Murder usually does not result in a life sentence. Mr Krasner still wanted Mr Dial kept in jail before he was tried and convicted of anything, and succeeded to the tune of ten months behind bars.

A Philly detective who handles sex crimes is under investigation for allegedly posting crude tweets about women, police say

Ron Kahlan’s account often tweeted vulgar sexual innuendo and used boorish language. Internal Affairs is investigating, police said.

A detective in the Philadelphia Police Department’s special victims unit who is assigned to investigate sex crimes is under internal investigation for a series of offensive tweets posted on his account over the years, including a number of crude sexual remarks about women.

“The only reason [I’m] watching the Phils now is because [of] the hot chick behind the on-deck circle!!!” read a tweet posted on Ron Kahlan’s Twitter page in 2012. That post was among the tamest of the tweets Kahlan allegedly wrote that were shared Saturday by an Instagram account called WatchOutPhilly.

In 2012? Holy calculator, Batman, that was 11 years ago! More, it was the latest of the tweets shown in the links; all of the rest pictured are dated in 2011.

In others, Kahlan’s account replied to pages such as “@ILikeGirlsDaily” with vulgar sexual innuendo and boorish language.

Many of the tweets in question were from 2011 or 2012, according to an Inquirer review. In more recent years, Kahlan’s account — which used the handle “@rkppd” — tended to comment instead on politics, often by making disparaging remarks about Democrats, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs.

If you read the entire article, you will note that nowhere in it is any contention that he wrote in any way differently about male Democrats. And the Inky’s story does not indicate any of the social media activities “with vulgar sexual innuendo and boorish language” occurred later than 2012.

In February, his account re-tweeted a post from another account asking if Christine Blasey Ford — the woman who accused then-U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault — should be arrested.

So, he didn’t write it himself, but retweeted someone else. And a lot people have thought that Dr Ford’s completely unsubstantiated allegations, in an attempt to deny Justice Kavanaugh confirmation, should entail some consequences for her, especially given that Mr Kavanaugh had actually kept detailed engagement calendars from the time, and none indicated that he ever attended the event Dr Ford alleged that he did. Why shouldn’t Dr Ford’s false allegations subject her to some negative consequences?

The Inquirer continues to note that the case has been turned over to Internal Affairs.

Many of the tweets on Kahlan’s page were crude, including comments about woman’s appearances and vulgar descriptions of sex acts.

Shockingly, it appears that Detective Kahlan is a normal male, attracted to women. No wonder the left are appalled!

You know what else isn’t in there? There are no allegations that the Detective unjustifiably threw any cases.

Kahlan, a 24-year veteran of the force, is not the first Philadelphia officer to come under scrutiny for his social media presence. In 2019, advocates with the Plain View Project published a database of racist or offensive Facebook posts or comments made by hundreds of city cops.

The Police Department went on to fire 15 officers and discipline dozens of others for what they wrote, an unprecedented undertaking. Still, some officers have since won their jobs back in arbitration proceedings mandated under the city’s contract with the police union.

So, the city engaged in a rush to judgement, and had to reinstate some of the officers.

Clearly, the standard is that a Philadelphia police officer must have zero social media presence, unless all of his postings are either innocuous things about birthdays and puppies and kittens, or politically support Democrats. I’m pretty sure that if Detective Kahlan had tweeted “Helen Gym is very attractive,” it would have been acceptable.
