So, why did the ad appear in my feed in the first place? Noting William Teach’s story on a Washington Post article, “How fast do you have to buy EVs and heat pumps to avoid the worst effects of climate change?” and it’s first lines:
Judging by the surging sales of green technology, U.S. households appear to be on the verge of a low-carbon future. Millions of Americans are buying electric vehicles, heat pumps and induction ranges.
But those numbers belie a starkly different present. Just about 3 percent of Americans, for example, reported owning an induction stove in 2022.
led me to do something reallt radical and check on the prices of induction ranges. I commented:
Checking lowes.com, their least expensive range is a four burner electric, non-glass top, for $469. The least expensive glass top is $549. The least expensive induction is $899, with the second least expensive at $1,099. These are all their Veterans’ Day sale prices.
Simply put, the least expensive induction range is almost twice as expensive as the least expensive electric range. More, due to the way induction ranges work, you must have cookware with enough ferromagnetic material — iron or steel — for the induction process to work. Most stovetop cookware has that, but there are things which do not.
All of this ties in with Mr Teach’s latest article:
Surprise: Green Energy To Skyrocket Cost Of NY Energy
By William Teach November 17, 2023 – 7:00 am
Obviously, no one saw this coming, right?
NYers face skyrocketing costs to switch to electric heat under new ‘green’ policies: study
New York residents could face skyrocketing heating bills under the state’s new “green” policies — which may not even have a significant impact on greenhouse-gas emissions, a new study warns.
A review by the Empire Center for Public Policy says the state’s new rules will push homeowners to buy expensive electrified heat pumps while being forced to phase out their natural gas, oil and propane systems.
But even then, the new electrification policy could only have a negligible impact on greenhouse emissions while burning up homeowners’ wallets, according to the analysis, “In Cold Reality: The Cost and Challenge of Compulsory Home Electrification in New York.”
“New York’s plan to steer homeowners and landlords toward electric heat could backfire due to high costs and practical concerns,” the authors say.
“The costs of heat pump installation and building shell weatherization are high and will place a substantial economic burden on many homeowners, even with state and federal subsidies.
None of this can happen with out government force and subsidies. Where are those subsidies coming from? The taxpayers, so, higher taxation or other services suffer. And, don’t forget that the building requirements will increase the cost of new construction, making homes and apartments more expensive, and commercial will simply pass the cost on to the customer.
There’s more at Mr Teach’s original, but it all leads to one point: doing what the activists want will cost everyone money! Not only do they want to ban the gas ranges that homeowners prefer. I have thrice entitled articles “How wealthy New Englanders fight #ClimateChange“, noting that the renovating homeowners mostly preferred gas ranges and gas furnaces to heat their homes in the bitterly cold northeastern winters.
Naturally, the wealthy and well-to-do can afford the things the activists want them to have, but for the working classes, the people living from paycheck-to-paycheck, or just slightly better? Doubling the costs of their ranges when they need to replace them, or requiring heat pump systems in climates in which only the more expensive, very high efficiency systems will keep up, imposes costs that people like Mrs Hochul, who has a guesstimated net worth of $2,000,000, and who uses gas ranges at both New York’s executive mansion and her personal home in Buffalo, can easily afford, but somehow, some way, they can’t wrap their heads around the fact that most people can’t.
How is it that Donald Trump has been so popular among ordinary Americans? Yes, he’s a billionaire, and the son of a millionaire as well, and never had to worry about money, never had to worry about keeping a roof over his head and well-done — ughhh! — steaks on his table, but he understands poorer people in ways the elitist Democrats simply do not.
That’s the whole idea. The ultimate objective is the reduction of world population to no more than 500 million, and they are pursuing that goal by any means necessary: war, abortion, pestilence, starvation, feminism, trannyism, LGBTQ-ism, etc.
And on the margin, as the cost of living increases, some simply won’t be able to afford it and die as well. I read in The Economist of an estimate of 68,000 excess deaths last winter in Europe due to high energy prices.
