Is it really any surprise that the City of Brotherly Love, the good people thereof who have thrice elected the George Soros-sponsored, criminal-loving and police-hating defense attorney Larry Krasner to be the chief criminal prosecutor just don’t like the laws being enforced?

Philly tells federal court the Trump administration can’t force it to collaborate with ICE

Attorneys for city officials asked a federal judge to toss out the Department of Justice’s challenge to a city ordinance that prohibits city agencies and employees from honoring immigration detainers.

President Donald Trump’s administration cannot demand that Philadelphia officials assist his deportation agenda and enforce federal immigration law, the city told a judge Tuesday.

Attorneys for the city and local officials asked U.S. District Judge Chad F. Kenney to toss out the Department of Justice’s challenge to an ordinance that prohibits Philadelphia agencies and employees from honoring immigration detainers.

“The federal government cannot conscript City employees as its agents, including by ordering them to keep an individual in custody, solely to assist with federal immigration enforcement,” the city’s motion said.

The Trump administration’s position in the case runs afoul of the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prevents the federal government from commandeering state and local governments to enforce federal laws, the city said.

And the Justice Department cannot point to any federal law “mandating” state and local officials assist with immigration enforcement, said the filing on behalf of Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, former City Solicitor Renee Garcia, and District Attorney Larry Krasner.

Ahhh, Mr Krasner, who absotively, posilutely hates President Trump and all of his policies. The city’s District Attorney who has gotten in trouble for his office and minions lying to the courts in trying to free already convicted criminals, which even The Philadelphia Inquirer acknowledged is a problem for him, as you can see here. The Editorial Board has, finally, mused whether Mr Krasner should remain in his office, though not after having previously lamented that the problems he faces could end the chances of freeing other previously convicted felons.

The newspaper’s Editorial Board lamented some of President Trump’s pardons, even for the January 6 Capitol kerfufflers, most of whom had already completed their sentences.

On his first day back in office, Trump issued sweeping pardons and commutations to approximately 1,500 defendants charged or convicted for their role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection — which a bipartisan House committee and federal prosecutors found he incited.

The House committee was hardly “bipartisan”: the Republicans refused to contribute members, so the Democrats cherry-picked two republicans who happened to hate President Trump. Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) was voted out of her office in the next election by a huge margin, and Representative Alan Kinsinger (R-IL) chose not to run for re-election in a campaign he knew he would lose badly. And “federal prosecutors” means a special prosecutor picked by Attorney General Merrick garland, who absolutely hates Republicans because then-Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) denied him a confirmation vote for a Supreme Court seat.

The Jan. 6 insurrectionists ransacked the U.S. Capitol, attacked police officers, called for hanging then-Vice President Mike Pence, and hunted for then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Nearly 100 of the Jan. 6 rioters Trump pardoned have gone on to commit new crimes.

Odd that the Editorial Board didn’t mention Philadelphian Michael Rinaldi, on whom they reported. freed by President Biden and now arrested again as part of a guns-and-drugs ring.

So, now we come to the city government. The Editorial Board have already complained about local law enforcement cooperating with ICE, even though that cooperation is limited to illegal immigrants who had already run afoul of the law on offenses which have nothing to do with immigration laws. The city government does not want local law enforcement to honor immigration detainers, something which applies only to people already in custody for other criminal offenses.

This isn’t the protection of local shopkeepers or construction workers just trying to make a living, but people who have already been arrested for other crimes. Why would the honest people of Philly want to help keep criminals on the streets?
