As a good Catholic, I have been horrified by the revelations of sexual abuse of minors by priests, but these days, it seems that such sexual abuse of minors has become the province of public school teachers. The abuse by priests helped to widen investigations, put the scandal more into the public eye, and was doing so even before the arrest and suicide of Jeffrey Epstein. Things that got swept under the rug don’t get such anymore.

UK nurse, Bourbon County wrestling coach faces federal charges of sexual abuse

A former Bourbon County wrestling coach facing state sex crimes is now also facing federal charges related to sex abuse of young boys.

Megan Foley, 36, of Carlisle, is facing a charge of online enticement of a minor and transportation of a minor for unlawful sexual activity, according to online court documents filed Friday.

Foley was an assistant wrestling coach at Bourbon County Middle School charged in June for allegedly raping and sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in Madison County this summer.

The victim told his father and investigators that Foley sexually abused him while he was on a trip with her at the Central Kentucky Gun Club in Berea between June 30 and July 2, according to a complaint from the FBI.

The boy told investigators that in addition to having sex with him, Foley had also sent him texts that were sexual in nature and had bitten him on the face, according to the complaint.

In those messages, she said she wanted to go from being a “mother-figure” to a girlfriend, the complaint states. She communicated with the boy through late-night messages on social media apps such as Snapchat and TikTok.

Miss Foley, a registered nurse, had her nursing license suspended, and has been placed on temporary paid administrative leave by the University of Kentucky, her employer. She is facing both state and federal charges.

We don’t know anything about Miss Foley’s personal life, but at least from the story, this is insane. A 36-year-old woman not only wants to f(ornicate) with a 14-year-old boy, but wants to be his “girlfriend”? Anyone who worked at a high school would know one thing: teenagers, both boys and girls, talk, and nothing stays secret for long. How can anyone, a former high school wrestling coach and an RN at that, not know that this would be exposed? The fact that the (alleged) incidents occurred during summer break might have stretched the time before this would be revealed by a couple of weeks, and he wound up telling his father rather than other kids at school, but it was never going to stay a secret. Her hometown of Carlisle is pretty small, with just 2,093 residents according to the 2020 census, and surrounding Nicholas County has only 7,537 people. I can see where a social and sexual life for a single woman there might be limited, but good grief, it would have been a lot simpler to travel to someplace larger — and a registered nurse can find work anywhere — than to decide to f(ornicate) a 14-year-old kid. This was, if she is guilty, and she is legally presumed to be innocent until proven otherwise, wholly irrational.

I suspect that will be part of the arguments her lawyer makes to try to get her exonerated, or at least get a reduced sentence.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader story, Miss Foley is currently out on bond.
