What could possibly go wrong?

As we have previously noted, while we might forgive His Majesty King Henry VIII for believing that Catherine of Aragon or Anne Boleyn were somehow responsible for his first two children being daughters, the role of the X and Y chromosomes in determining the sex of mammals, including humans, has been known for over a century. Sex is not somehow “assigned” at birth; sex is determined at conception, depending upon whether the sperm which fertilized the egg carries the X or Y chromosome. We recognize the sex of a newborn child by visual examination of the child, but the characteristics which indicate sex developed long before birth, during gestation, as programmed in by the developing child’s DNA.

When you read or hear someone talking about sex being assigned at birth, you know automatically the pure bovine feces is about to follow. From The Philadelphia Inquirer:

In New Jersey, trans inmates will now be placed according to gender, not sex assigned at birth

The policy shift comes as the state grapples with what’s been called rampant abuse at its only women’s prison.

In a move LGBTQ advocates are hailing as a significant policy reform, inmates in New Jersey’s prison system will now be placed in facilities based on their gender identity, not their sex assigned at birth.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Miss Orso was graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2014, with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Print Journalism, sociology/criminology. Her political views are easily discerned from her inquirer job description on her LinkedIn profile: “I spent much of 2020 writing about the coronavirus pandemic, the racial justice movement, police brutality, and the 2020 presidential election’s impact on the city.” In the Inquirer itself, her bio says, “I cover news in Philadelphia with a special focus on systems of justice and injustice.”

Translation: she’s one of the #woke.[1]From Wikipedia: Woke (/ˈwoʊk/) as a political term of African-American origin refers to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice and racial justice. It is derived from … Continue reading Still, even being woke, I would have thought that she would have learned some basic biology, but anyone who believes that sex is “assigned at birth” is wholly ignorant of it.

The ACLU of New Jersey on Tuesday announced the change, part of a settlement reached with the state’s Department of Corrections over a 2019 lawsuit filed by a transgender inmate who is identified in court documents as Sonia Doe.

She was housed for a year and a half in a men’s prison — where she said she was subjected to discrimination, sexual abuse, and harassment by fellow inmates and staff — and after filing suit was transferred to the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Hunterdon County.

“When I was forced to live in men’s prisons, I was terrified I wouldn’t make it out alive. Those memories still haunt me,” she said in a statement announcing the settlement.

Miss Orso uses the feminine pronouns to refer to Mr “Doe.”[2]I did attempt to find Mr “Doe’s” real name for the writing of this article, but was unable to do so. I suppose that the reporter has little choice, given the policies of what I frequently refer to as The Philadelphia Enquirer.[3]RedState writer Mike Miller called it the Enquirer, probably by mistake, so I didn’t originate it, but I thought it very apt. As per our Stylebook, I shall not change her direct quotations, but will refer to Mr Doe by the honorifics and pronouns associated with his actual sex.

Of course, Mr Doe might be no safer in the Jersey women’s prison:

The new housing policy for transgender, nonbinary, and intersex inmates comes as New Jersey’s prison system is in a state of upheaval, spurred by the treatment of women incarcerated at Edna Mahan. In January, NJ Advance Media reported a criminal investigation was underway and more than 30 guards had been placed on leave following allegations of brutality inside the facility.

Ten guards now face charges, and a state-commissioned report released earlier this month concluded that staff used excessive force and broke department policy. Within days of the report’s release, the corrections commissioner resigned and Gov. Phil Murphy announced the state will close Edna Mahan, its only women’s prison.

Still, one has to wonder about the safety of the other inmates in the women’s prison in New Jersey. From an earlier article on Mr Doe in the Enquirer Inquirer:

According to court filings, Doe has identified as female since childhood and publicly “lived as a woman,” including using a legal feminine name, for the last 15 years. She has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and undergone prescribed hormone therapy since 2005. In addition, her New Jersey driver’s license, initially issued in 2007, reflects her female gender and legal name.

You know what it doesn’t say that he has had? It does not state that he has had surgery! What are we to infer from that other than he still has a penis and testicles?

Of course, we should not have to infer that at all; good journalism and a respect for what journalists — as opposed to journolists[4]The spelling ‘journolist’ comes from JournoList, an email list of 400 influential and politically liberal journalists, the exposure of which called into question their objectivity. New Jersey has just housed an intact, biological male in with a bunch of of female inmates. What could possibly go wrong?

1 From Wikipedia:

Woke (/ˈwk/) as a political term of African-American origin refers to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice and racial justice. It is derived from the African-American Vernacular English expression “stay woke“, whose grammatical aspect refers to a continuing awareness of these issues.
By the late 2010s, woke had been adopted as a more generic slang term broadly associated with left-wing politics and cultural issues (with the terms woke culture and woke politics also being used). It has been the subject of memes and ironic usage. Its widespread use since 2014 is a result of the Black Lives Matter movement.

I shall confess to sometimes “ironic usage” of the term. To put it bluntly, I think that the ‘woke’ are just boneheadedly stupid.
