Today’s left really do hate them some #FreedomOfSpeech

We have previously noted the hostility of the credentialed media to what everyone would have thought they supported, freedom of speech and freedom of the press, at least for other people.

Now comes Aaron Rupar, who claims to be a journalist for Vox. Mr Rupar us upset, highly upset, that Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade claims that he read Mein Kampf in school:

Well, I’ll agree with Dan Janison on one part: Mein Kampf is a tough read. It’s boring, and, at least for native English speakers, it’s hard to follow.

Now, I’ve read Mein Kampf, and still have it, a 1943 hardbacked English translation. Does that make me a Nazi? Well, I have also read Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto, and several books by Vladimir Ilich Lenin; does that make me a Communist? It’s pretty hard to be both at the same time!

Of course, it could mean that I’m, oh, educated, but that’s something that would never seem to cross Mr Rupar’s mind.

I also play, and sing, the Soviet national anthem! Why? To work on my Russian pronunciation. There are some real tongue twisters in there for someone who isn’t a native Russian speaker.

I went to school, including college, in Kentucky, and I lived for 15 years in Virginia, the capital of the Confederacy. After 17 years in Delaware and Pennsylvania, I retired back to the Bluegrass State; perhaps to Mr Rupar, that means I support slavery? I’ve not only watched Gone With the Wind, I’ve read the book.

Of course, for Mr Rupar and his ilk, having read something or watched something means that you must somehow agree with it.

There you have it: if Mr Kilmeade read Mein Kampf, it’s “not a great look.”

My current read is Leon Uris’ book Exodus, my second time through it. Mr Rupar would probably say that means I must be a Jew, which I’m not, or a Zionist sympathizer and supporter of Israel.

OK, I plead guilty to that!

But really, the attempts of the left to restrict people’s freedom of speech, and levy criticism based not only on what people say, but even what they read, is about as anti-intellectual as can be. It wasn’t that long ago that the left supported absolute freedom of speech; now, they find it a great, great evil.

  1. I don’t know if one can actually be a Nazi and a communist at the same time since “being” one or the other requires a certain allegiance, but philosophically they are cousins and really not far apart at all. Hell, I can’t distinguish whether or not Elwood is a Nazi or a commie to this day he comingles the two so often. I settle for fascist/communist and let him hide his real self like he does his face, his hate of Whites, Christians, Jews and America refusing to answer why for years now.

  2. Maybe if Aaron Rupar went to an actual school instead of a leftist daycare, he’d find out that actual schools can and do assign Mein Kampf as reading material.
