A popular Twitter account has morphed into a social media phenomenon, spreading anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment and shaping public discourse

On March 8, a Twitter account called Libs of TikTok posted a video of a woman teaching sex education to children in Kentucky, calling the woman in the video a “predator.” The next evening, the same clip was featured on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News program, prompting the host to ask, “When did our public schools, any schools, become what are essentially grooming centers for gender identity radicals?”

Libs of TikTok reposts a steady stream of TikTok videos and social media posts, primarily from LGBTQ+ people, often including incendiary framing designed to generate outrage. Videos shared from the account quickly find their way to the most influential names in right-wing media. The account has emerged as a powerful force on the Internet, shaping right-wing media, impacting anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and influencing millions by posting viral videos aimed at inciting outrage among the right.

The anonymous account’s impact is deep and far-reaching. Its content is amplified by high-profile media figures, politicians and right-wing influencers. Its tweets reach millions, with influence spreading far beyond its more than 648,000 Twitter followers. Libs of TikTok has become an agenda-setter in right-wing online discourse, and the content it surfaces shows a direct correlation with the recent push in legislation and rhetoric directly targeting the LGBTQ+ community.

Miss Lorenz mission was to dox the creator of LoTT, and in that, she accomplished her mission, in this paragraph from much further down:

Chaya Raichik had been working as a real estate salesperson in Brooklyn when, in early November 2020, she created the account that would eventually become Libs of TikTok.

Let’s tell the truth here: Miss Lorenz exposure of Miss Raichik’s identity for her previously anonymous account was intended to get her fired from her job. Whether Miss Raichik is still selling real estate I do not know, but she appears to have weathered the storm pretty well.

It wasn’t long after that that Miss Lorenz was aghast that President Biden’s proposed Ministry of Truth ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ in the Department of Fatherland Homeland Security failed as people saw it for exactly what it was, an attempt for the government to define what is, and is not, true. The very liberal Miss Lorenz apparently didn’t consider that the party she apparently favored might not be in power forever; would she really want Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis overseeing the Ministry of Truth?

One of Miss Lorenz’s biggest bugaboos has been COVID-19, because as she told us, she is immunocompromised, and that:

Disabled/medically vulnerable people also live in society. We have to go to work, to the doctor, we have to grocery shop and go to school, we ride the same trains and busses as everyone else. It’s terrifying how many ppl want sick & vulnerable people to die or be locked away

And she’s still at it. The image is a screen capture that Miss Raichik took of Miss Lorenz’s tweets from August 14th, in which Washington Post reporter said:

No, you should mask to protect others. It doesn’t matter if you personally have had 5, 6, 7 shots. You can still spread covid and are even more likely to be asymptomatic, which is a major way covid spreads. Also the vaxx doesn’t prevent long covid, which everyone is at risk for.

An interesting statement. She has basically said that the COVID-19 vaccines might make your symptoms less or non-existent if you do contract the virus, but that they do nothing to keep people from contracting or spreading it, which we have known for quite some time.

Then one of the people she hasn’t blocked — she doesn’t really like to hear the truth, so she has blocked me! — Jim Golab, who wrote, seemingly in support of her:

I was 4x vaxxed, and wore a mask while I went through 2 airports on a trip. I got Covid somewhere in there, but such a mild case that I did not really curtail my activities (or mask) because I did not know I had it until later after I tested. I am sure that I was a spreader.

A more polite person would have expressed some sympathy and hope that Mr Golub was now over the disease, and thanking him for at least wearing a mask — something he kind of implied but did not actually state — until after he was aware he had contracted the virus. That wasn’t Miss Lorenz’s response:

That’s horrific and you spread death and disability. That’s why everyone should wear a mask in public while transmission is high and we should demand free and easy testing, public transmission data, upgraded ventilation etc.

And that’s where the fun begins, as Miss Raichik completely destroyed Miss Lorenz’s meme! Dylan Mulvaney, the mentally ill male who thinks he’s a girl, attended a party at Kathy Griffin’s house, and posted a photo, a photo showing himself, seated next to Miss Griffin, who was seated next to, you guessed it, Taylor Lorenz!

Somehow, some way, there isn’t a mask in sight!

Now, we have no way of knowing how many of the ten women and one man male, plus a photographer, at this pretty party “have had 5, 6, 7 shots,” but it doesn’t really matter: the immunocompromised Miss Lorenz still believes that they could “still spread covid.” And if Miss Lorenz knew, or cared, she did not care enough to have worn a mask herself or insist that the others wear masks. It is, I suppose, possible that they were all masked except for the publicity photo, but let’s face it: wearing masks is a real downer, and who wants Debbie Downer at an afternoon tea party?

Miss Lorenz railed on Mr Golub that it was “horrific and (he) spread death and disability,” yet was apparently unconcerned enough at a Hollywood coffee klatch to both attend and not always wear a mask herself. Did she similarly berate the others?

In the end, it’s typical liberal hypocrisy: do as I say, not do as I do! Or, to paraphrase Jonathan Edwards, she can’t even run her own life, I’ll be damned if she’ll run mine!

Taylor Lorenz loves to express her opinions, but doesn’t really want other people expressing their opinions back to her

We have previously mentioned Taylor Lorenz, who covers technology and online culture for The Washington Post. Miss Lorenz is probably most famous for her article doxing Chaya Raichik, the previously anonymous lady who ran the Twitter site Libs of TikTok. LoTT’s schtick is to find the silliest things leftists put on the social media site Tik Tok, and snark them for sensible people on Twitter. Basically, LoTT is mocking people for their own exposed stupidity. My good friend Amanda Marcotte of Salon loved that LoTT was doxed, doubtlessly hoping that Miss Raichik, a Brooklyn-based real estate salesperson and LoTT creator would lose her job — she wrote in September of 2021 that the unvaccinated should all lose their jobs, and retweeted it with the same message just four days ago — and posted back in April a hope that Elon Musk’s buyout of Twitter results in the whole thing being killed. Miss Lorenz was also appalled that the Biden Administration’s plans to open a Ministry of Truth Disinformation Governance Board within the Department of Fatherland Homeland Security.

Miss Lorenz previously told us that she was immunocompromised, though I have included that link to show that I once saw it; she has since deleted it. Thus, the image of one of her latest threads is just that, a screen captured image. Of course, it had to be screen capped because Miss Lorenz, who has her tweets protected and limited to her “approved followers” — Miss Lorenz has, as of this writing, 355,400 followers, but she follows only 8,674 people — both restricts those who can reply to it and set it so that her tweet cannot be retweeted. It is interesting that someone with the blue checkmark of being a high-profile person, who has the major public soapbox of a Washington Post reporter, and believed that Chaya Raichik needed to be doxed, has her tweets protected.

You know, I get it: Miss Lorenz is immunocompromised herself, and thus she has a personal reason to see the rest of us forcibly vaccinated and masked for the rest of our lives. But most people realize that the masks don’t really do much, and that the vaccines neither prevent people from contracting the virus nor prevent those who do contract it from transmitting it to others. And, as I have noted previously, it’s not just evil reich-wing American conservatives: in our family’s recent travels, we flew on Air Canada and Swissair, and were in airports in Toronto, Amsterdam, Aberdeen, Zurich, Tel Aviv, Istanbul and Kuwait City, and on neither any flights nor in any of those airports were there mask mandates, vaccine records checks, nor more than a small minority of people wearing masks voluntarily.

No, I don’t want Miss Lorenz to contract the SARS-CoV-2 virus. For the vast majority of people, as it was for me, it’s like an annoying cold or flu bug for a few days, but nothing debilitating. For someone immunocompromised as she is, it could be significantly worse. But there comes a point at which the vast majority of people cannot and should not have their rights and freedoms restricted for the benefit of a relatively few.

As we have noted previously, Miss Lorenz is The Washington Post author over whom the newspaper was paying owner Jeff Bezos’ hard earned dollars to Twitter to promote an article doxing a conservative on Twitter? Elon Musk is buying Twitter for a sum of money so large as to be meaningless to all normal people. That’s enraging many or most Twitter users, but it also feels appropriate. After all, that platform is largely controlled by trolls. So why shouldn’t one of the biggest trolls on the platform own it outright? It’s a little like Snoop Dogg buying Death Row Records. Of course, trolls never wrote “Gin and Juice.” They are just draining the life out of our democracy.

As I argued a couple weeks ago, when Musk first started making sounds about buying Twitter, his plan to let the already obnoxious troll problem spiral out of control will likely sound the death knell for the social media behemoth. Trolls are good for business on social media, up to a point. But if they take over too much, they run all the normal people off. Then the trolls leave too, because they’re hapless and forlorn without non-trolls to troll. Soon it’s just a ghost town, like Donald Trump’s utterly pointless platform Truth Social.

That’s rather amusing, given that Miss Marcotte had posted 22 separate Twitter threads dated April 25th through 10:40 AM on the 26th, to promote her own sites and writing.[1]Miss Marcotte has me blocked, but all I have to do is hit [Ctrl][Alt][N] and it takes me to the private browsing screen, in which I am not logged in on Twitter, and I can see what she has posted. She used her willingness to post profanity on the now-defunct website Pandagon to build an ‘edgy’ audience, so it’s difficult not to laugh at her calling other people trolls. It was just last Thursday that she complained that conservatives wanting to keep sexually loaded works out of school libraries means that they want to ban and burn books.

LOL!

Well, Miss Lorenz was not very concerned about other people’s privacy, or potential harm to them, when she doxxed Miss Raichik, but she certainly is concerned about potential risks to herself! Very, very concerned about the new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control over COVID-19, which basically says that there’s no need for serious restrictions, Miss Lorenz tweeted:

Miss Lorenz is, herself, immunocompromised. She wrote:

Disabled/medically vulnerable ppl shouldn’t have to risk their lives to participate in society, nor are most even given that choice. Disabled people also have to work, go to school, grocery shop, go to the doctor’s office. We are human beings in the world just like everyone else. As someone working in media who’s immunocompromised and medically vulnerable I really wish we as an industry hired more disabled writers and did more to center vulnerable people in our coverage, esp on COVID. What’s happening right now is so horrific on such a massive scale

I would point out here that the CDC are not run by evil reich-wing Republicans, but that the current administration is under all sweetness-and-light liberal Joe Biden. She did note that, sort of, when she said that such a view is “championed by liberals and large media institutions.” The truth is simple: even if the left were not as tired of silly mask rules — and we did note how Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney is firing the last vaccine holdouts, even though the vaccines neither prevent people from contracting SARS-CoV-2 nor transmitting it to others — as are conservatives, there’s an election coming up in 12 weeks, and the Democrats are doing everything that they can to cut their anticipated losses.

I do not want Miss Lorenz to contract the virus, but the fact is that almost everybody eventually will. Realistically, I can more reasonably hope that when Miss Lorenz contracts it — if she hasn’t already — her symptoms will be very mild or even non-existent. But her fears are not enough to override the desires of the vast majority of people in this country, people who have long ago thrown away their silly masks.
