I raised, in our after-Mass Bible study group — contrary to some Protestant claims, Catholics actually do read the Bible! — a theological question: can God, who is omniscient, learn? My question was inspired by this: God, being all powerful, cannot be hurt, but by taking human form, Jesus suffered the agony of the crucifixion, so did God learn anything new in this?
Which leads me to a more mortal question: can socialists actually learn anything?
Leftist Seattle mayor walks back criticism of major company after it starts shifting jobs to Nashville
Story by Michael Austin | Monday, June 8, 2026
Seattle Democratic Mayor Katie Wilson criticized the presence of Starbucks in her city last year, but after the major coffee chain started moving operations to Nashville, Tennessee, she walked back some of her comments.
Wilson said shortly after being elected in November 2025 that residents should boycott Starbucks, even though the company is headquartered in Seattle and has been a major employer in the area.
“I am not buying Starbucks and you should not either,” Wilson said in remarks delivered at a labor strike, according to a report from Fox Business.
Starbucks recently announced that they are establishing a corporate hub in Nashville, which will hire 2,000 employees.
Concern grew that the major restaurant business would continue moving jobs out of Seattle.
When commenting about her past remarks during a forum at Seattle University, Wilson amended her denouncement of Starbucks, per a report from The New York Times.
Mrs Myers — the Mayor does not have enough respect for her husband, Scott Myers, to have taken his name, but we will not show him such similar disrespect — has subsequently walked back her incendiary words, as she’s, probably slowly, realizing that Starbucks provides a lot of jobs, mostly working-class jobs, in Seattle.
It wasn’t just Mrs Myers’ words, of course: in moving some offices to the Volunteer State, Starbucks is moving to a lower cost city in a lower tax state. It’s a smart corporate move from a business and economics perspective, not just pique at the Mayor’s words.
But the obvious question is: did Mrs Myers actually learn anything, or is she simply scrambling to try to reverse damages? I’m guessing the latter.
