It seems that, all of a sudden, I’m seeing more from the old neoconservatives, pushing for the United States to dramatically increase military aid to Ukraine. The George W Buch Presidential Center tweeted:
“Surveys show that most Americans stand with Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia, view Putin as a dangerous threat who shouldn’t be trusted, and want to see the United States offer more assistance to Ukraine,” writes David J. Kramer, Executive Director of the Bush Institute along with John Herbst and William Taylor, both former U.S. Ambassadors to Ukraine.

And here it is!
Siding With Putin Is a Huge Mistake
The United States should stand unequivocally with Ukraine against Russia.

President Trump’s inexplicable decision to waive some sanctions on Russia, announced late Friday, essentially gives a pass to the forces of evil in the Kremlin. The move effectively nullifies legislation that was named after the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, passed by huge bipartisan majorities in both the House and Senate, and signed by the president. This decision is the latest in a long series that this administration has taken to appease or accommodate the Russians in misguided attempts to get them to negotiate. Russian President Vladimir Putin pockets these naive offerings and still refuses to talk.
Surveys show that most Americans stand with Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia, view Putin as a dangerous threat who shouldn’t be trusted, and want to see the United States offer more assistance to Ukraine.
I keep seeing this, the claim that “most Americans . . . want to see the United States offer more assistance to Ukraine.”
But Donald Trump campaigned in part on reducing or eliminating Joe Biden’s aid to Ukraine. The authors wrote that most Americans want to see far more help for Ukraine, but when the public had an actual chance to vote on it, they voted for the man who said he’d cut it.
Few wars in recent history have been so black-and-white: Russia is the guilty party that invaded Ukraine for no good reason. Ukraine is, for its part, defending its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Yes, we know: Vlad the Impaler Putin is a bad, bad guy, but does that mean we have to go to war with nuclear-armed Russia?
Trudy Rubin, the sort-of neoconservative columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer, wrote Wednesday morning:
While voters are rightly aggrieved over Donald Trump’s war of choice in Iran, they need to recognize that the president is ready to inflict an even greater foreign policy disaster on our country.
This week, POTUS openly aligned the American government with Russia against the democracies of Europe, including Ukraine.
Mrs Rubin acknowledged that many Americans are unhappy with the decision to attack Iran — I didn’t like the idea, but can’t be disappointed that much of Iran’s infrastructure for building nuclear weapons has been destroyed — because a large number of Americans don’t want the United States involved in seemingly endless wars. Yet she thinks that many of those same Americans want to get more involved in a stalemated war that has now dragged on for 4½ years.
I have used the title World War III Watch 34 times before, but primarily when Joe Biden was President. I don’t like the fact that Russia invaded Ukraine, and I don’t like that a war is going on there, but I am far less concerned that Mr Trump will get us bogged down there than before.
But that doesn’t mean the neocons have given up: they’re still pushing for more, more, more when it comes to Ukraine, and they’re pushing for the Democrats to win the 2026 elections to get us more involved in Ukraine.
