In the first Avengers movie, Robert Downey, Jr, as Tony Stark, spots a SHIELD technician playing a video game at his terminal, and says, loudly, “That man is playing Galaga. He thought we wouldn’t notice, but we did.”
The tech quickly shuts down Galaga and returns to work . . . until the Avengers leave the room, when he brings up the game again.
NYT rehires Hitler-praising Soliman Hijjy to cover Israel-Hamas war

A New York Times reporter who came under fire last year for a praising Adolf Hitler in multiple resurfaced Facebook posts was rehired by the Gray Lady to cover the Israel-Palestine war.
Palestinian filmmaker Soliman Hijjy hailed the Nazi leader as recently as 2018 in a post on Facebook, when he shared a photo of himself captioned that he was “in a state of harmony as Hitler was during the Holocaust,” per a translation from Arabic by pro-Israel media watchdog site HonestReporting.
That same year, Hijjy was hired by the Times as a freelance journalist and worked on a slew of “visual investigations” published by the organization through 2021, including one on an Israeli airstrike that killed 44 people.
Hijjy’s 2018 post — including a 2012 Facebook post where he wrote, “How great you are, Hitler” in Arabic alongside a photoshopped image of Hitler seemingly taking a selfie — were unearthed last year, when pro-Israel outlets called out the Times for hiring antisemitic journalists as freelancers.
At the time, Hijjy didn’t appear to be working for the Times anymore, and had since taken down his controversial pro-Hitler posts.
A site search of The New York Times website for Soliman Hijjy, conducted at 6:21 AM EDT on Saturday, October 21th, yielded six articles written during the present unpleasantness in which Mr Hijjy was listed in the byline, including five in which he is the first listed author, and one of which he is listed as the sole author. In addition, there were two articles from 2021 listing him in the byline, though none in the first position. Interestingly enough, none of those listed articles included having appeared in the print edition.
It wasn’t just the New York Post which noticed. Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, denounced it, as did the algemeiner.
I’ve got to ask: what would the reaction of The New York Times, and the rest of the liberal outlets among the credentialed media, have been had Fox News or the New York Post or any of the other, far too few, conservative outlets have been had one of them hired someone who had publicly admired der Führer? We’ve already seen the reaction when the very beautiful Nozima Husainova posted “No wonder why Hitler wanted to get rid of all of them 🙂 “, referring to Jews; she quickly became not just toast, but toast which had fallen on the floor, buttered side down.
Yes, Mr Hijjy is actually on the scene, living in Gaza, but was there no one else the Times could have gotten to take photos, to write stories? There are over two million people living in Gaza, and surely a few of them speak English and have cameras!
Once caught at it, the Times defended their use of Mr Hijjy:
The Times is now standing by Hijjy.
“We reviewed problematic social media posts by Mr. Hijjy when they first came to light in 2022 and took a variety of actions to ensure he understood our concerns and could adhere to our standards if he wished to do freelance work for us in the future,” a spokesperson for the Times told FOX News Digital. “Mr. Hijjy followed those steps and has maintained high journalistic standards. He has delivered important and impartial work at great personal risk in Gaza during this conflict.”
Really? How would they know?
Mr Hijjy has the right to his opinions, and his opinions are thoroughly partisan, and are partisan in a way which would like to see the Jews exterminated from the face of the earth; he’s told us so himself! But sure, he’s maintained “high journalistic standards” and “delivered important and impartial work”!
The New York Times enjoys our complete freedom of the press, but we, as readers, have the complete freedom to notice what the Times have said and done. They thought we wouldn’t notice, but we did!
