The Democrats’ and “progressives” — William Teach defines ‘progressives’ as “Nice Fascists” — current cause du jour is housing and the shortage of ‘affordable’ housing. Senator Bernie Sanders, the socialist independent who caucuses with the Democrats, railed that “Almost 600,000 Americans are sleeping out on our streets.” So, I have to ask the Distinguished Gentleman from Vermont, just who caused that problem?

Trump vs. Biden on immigration: 12 charts comparing U.S. border security

By Nick Miroff, Maria Sacchetti and Sarah Frostenson | Sunday, February 11, 2024 | Updated: Sunday, July 28, 2024

Immigration is a key issue in the 2024 presidential race.

Illegal border crossings soared to record levels under President Biden, averaging 2 million per year from 2021 to 2023. The migrants have arrived in every state in the country, overwhelming cities such as New York, Chicago and Denver as newcomers seek shelter and aid.

Crossings dropped sharply this spring and summer after the Biden administration tightened border controls and closed off migrants’ access to the asylum system. Still, apprehensions exceeded 1.3 million during the first nine months of the 2024 fiscal year.

I will point out here that the cited source is The Washington Post, not exactly an evil, reich-wing rag.

Biden’s handling of border security was among his worst-rated issues in polls before he ended his campaign July 21 and endorsed Kamala Harris, his vice president, for the presidency. Harris has also grappled with the issue. Former president Donald Trump — who faced criticism for his immigration policies, such as separating migrant children from their parents — won his third consecutive Republican nomination this summer while promising to “close the border” and round up immigrants using U.S. troops.

Trump rallied Republicans early this year to block a $118 billion bipartisan Senate bill that tied border reforms to Ukraine aid. Biden, who backed the bill, insists his administration’s ability to stem illegal crossings is limited without new laws and resources from Congress. Still, the executive actions he’s taken in recent months have left the border quieter than at any point since he took office.

Really? The Post included several charts documenting the illegal border crossings, and the first one tells almost the entire story:

It seems that even without the “border reforms” that President Biden wanted, the United States under President Trump saw far fewer illegal border crossings. Apparently, something could be done under the existing laws, as long as it was backed by the political will to do it.

There’s a lot more in the Post’s original, including statements that deportations were far higher under Mr Biden than his predecessor, and now successor, but that’s mostly a function of there being so many more illegal immigrants to deport. The article noted that under Mr Biden, more than 3.3 million border crossers which had been apprehended were released into the United States. How does that line up with Senator Sanders’ complain that “almost 600,000 Americans are sleeping out on our streets”?

Mr Biden is, of course, supposedly a “nice guy,” someone sympathetic to the plight of the poor and downtrodden, while Mr Trump is just an [insert slang term for the anus here]. But look at what being a “nice guy” has done? Our country has been flooded with illegal immigrants, and they’ve clustered in our major, Democrat-run cities, thanks in part to [insert plural slang term for the anus here] like Governors Greg Abbott (R-TX) and Ron DeSantis (R-FL) shipping ‘migrants’ to those cities. I think we can thank them for the rightward turn of the voters in those cities toward the GOP, once the mostly liberal residents therein saw what Mr Biden’s loose immigration policies have wrought.

Think about it: More than 3.3 million illegal border crossers, not including the FY2024 numbers, who were caught — and thus not including in the count those who eluded capture — were released into the country, and there are a large number, though not as high as a million, of homeless people in the US. A greater demand for housing raises housing prices, for both buyers and renters, at the bottom as well as the top of the economic ladder, and sha-zamm! we have a housing crisis. Too bad the very compassionate Mr Sanders and the rest of our good-hearted and well-meaning friends on the left cannot, or will not, see it.

Everything the Biden Administration has done has been wrong, and there are more things interrelated from his bad policies than people realize.
