In 2004, Pennsylvania’s Auditor General, Bob Casey, Jr, ran for State Treasurer. Because I wanted to support declared pro-life candidates, and because I wanted to see more pro-life Democrats in the Democratic Party, I went ahead and cast my ballot for Mr Casey.
This was obviously a mistake.
Sen. Bob Casey said he’ll back a bill to ensure abortion access, a new marker for the ‘pro-life’ Democrat
Casey, and his family, have a long and complicated history with abortion laws, but the Democratic senator said he will vote for the Women’s Health Protection Act.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Bob Casey will vote to support a bill to ensure access to abortion nationwide, he said Tuesday, taking a significant step in favor of abortion rights despite long describing himself as a “pro-life” Democrat.
Casey, whose namesake father was part of a landmark Supreme Court case on abortion restrictions, announced his stand Tuesday ahead of a Senate vote, expected as soon as Wednesday, that would attempt to write into law the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion and blocking many bans.
While the vote is certain to fail in the face of opposition from Republicans and likely from West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin, it represents Democrats’ first formal pushback against a forthcoming Supreme Court decision that appears poised to overturn the pivotal abortion ruling.
Casey, in a statement, said he has never voted for and would not support “a categorical ban on abortion” that could result from the expected ruling.
There’s more at the original.
What exactly does “pro-life” mean to someone who has claimed that definition, but who is planning to vote for a bill which would codify a ‘right’ to prenatal infanticide into federal law?

Translation: Mr Casey has lied through his scummy teeth! He votes pro-life when it doesn’t matter, but when it does, he votes as a far-left Democrat. Like Joe Biden, he is a Catholic of convenience, someone who finds being a Democrat far more important than being Catholic.
Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) said on Monday, concerning the Women’s Health Protection Act, “I ask my colleagues to think carefully about their choice later this week. No more running, no more hiding. The vote will shine light on every single one of us.” Since the Democrats do not have the votes to break a Republican filibuster, and Senators Kristen Simema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) will not support the ‘nuclear option’ to eliminate the filibuster, it’s pretty much meaningless for Senator Casey to support the Democrats’ prenatal infanticide legislation, not if he is supposed to be pro-life, but he has said he will anyway.
So, what could a supposedly prolife Democratic senator do? Well, he could propose a compromise, one which would eliminate §5(a)(1), which would:
Except as stated under subsection (b), this Act supersedes and applies to the law of the Federal Government and each State government, and the implementation of such law, whether statutory, common law, or otherwise, and whether adopted before or after the date of enactment of this Act, and neither the Federal Government nor any State government shall administer, implement, or enforce any law, rule, regulation, standard, or other provision having the force and effect of law that conflicts with any provision of this Act, notwithstanding any other provision of Federal law, including the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (42 U.S.C. 2000bb et seq.).
Simply put, the (born) Women’s Health protection Act, as passed by the House of Representatives, would not allow claims of conscience or religion to allow health care providers — doctors, nurses, pharmacists or technicians — to decline to participate in an abortion procedure.
A prolife Catholic, Democratic senator, one who cannot see prohibiting abortion totally, would still surely see that the individual right of conscience and freedom of religion ought not to be trampled, as this odious bill would do. But Senator Casey has said nothing about this provision, at least not that I have found. And President Biden supports the provision trampling on the rights of conscience and religious freedom.
The Democrats and the left — please pardon the redundancy — have long said that if you don’t believe in abortion, don’t have one. Yet with §5(a)(1), they would force those people who do not believe in abortion to participate in abortions, or lose their jobs. Senator Casey seems to agree.
You just can’t trust Catholic Democrats.
