Pelham police arrest Ashville man in Shelby County for alleged child abuse and sexual misconduct

ASHVILLE, Ala. — A 32-year-old Ashville man is facing multiple charges, including child abuse and sexual misconduct, following his arrest in Shelby County this week.
Dezmond Turner was arrested Sept. 14 by the Pelham Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. According to court documents filed in the District Court of Shelby County, Turner is facing two felony counts of child abuse torture and one misdemeanor count of sexual misconduct.
The child abuse charges stem from two separate incidents involving a minor on a bus, according to the criminal complaint.
On Aug. 31, Turner allegedly grabbed the child’s head and slammed it multiple times against the bus wall. A day later, on Sept. 1, Turner is accused of slapping the child’s face with an open hand, putting his body weight on the child to let someone pass, and pressing the child’s head against the wall.
The complaints state Turner had “permanent or temporary care or custody or responsibility for the supervision” of the child.
Additionally, an outstanding warrant from January 2024 was executed, charging Turner with sexual misconduct. The complaint alleges that on two occasions in December 2023, Turner grabbed another individual’s crotch and buttocks without consent.
Alabama.com reported that Mr Turner was the President of Central Alabama Pride.
Technically, the accusations against Mr Turner are that he physically assaulted two children on a bus, but they do not state that he sexually assaulted them. The sexual misconduct charge is from an outstanding warrant that he sexually assaulted someone, but it does not state that the victim in that case was a minor.
Is it any surprise that someone who is a “deviated prevert,” as Colonel Batguano put it in Dr Strangelove, in one regard might turn out to be a pervert in other ways as well?
